This is a brandmark reveal animation accompanying the Japanese National Tourism Organization branding project. The animation echos the brand values of cultural, welcoming, and powerful.
Process
The mark consists of two icons: a partial torii gate and a brushstroke around it. The animation decodes these culturally specific icons by showing the full torii and the brush stroke being drawn. The sound of traditional Japanese drums used as the background music adds to the power and excitement.
The sketches show the exploration to solving the 2 main challenges of this animation: first, aligning the timing for the shapeshifting torii and the moving stroke; second, cutting between different camera views.
